[Press Release] "KAGUA" now on sale in Thailand

Nippon Craft Beer Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shiro Yamada) will begin selling its fragrant Japanese ale, "KAGUA," in Thailand from November 28, 2013.

We began sales in Hong Kong and Singapore in September 2012, and Thailand will now be our third overseas market.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is the city with the most foreign visitors in the world (*1), and has been attracting a lot of attention in recent years not only as a tourist destination but also as a central city of ASEAN. The F&B sector (food and beverage industry) is also influenced by cutting-edge trends from Europe, the United States, and Japan, and can be said to be one of the most advanced markets in the world. The abundance of high-end restaurants in particular is outstanding, with five Bangkok restaurants ranked in Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2013 (*2), and Bangkok is said to be one of the cities in Asia with the most high-end restaurants, along with Tokyo and Hong Kong.

In Bangkok, where cutting-edge food can be enjoyed, the craft beer market, which is a global trend, is also showing remarkable growth, with an increasing number of high-end restaurants and bars using craft beer. Recognizing the high potential of the country's craft beer market, we have decided to launch sales.

To mark the start of sales in Thailand, a sales partnership agreement was signed with local Thai retailer Beervana. Beervana imports world-renowned craft beers such as Deschutes Brewery and Rogue Ales (both from the US) and Ngune O (Norway), and sells them to Thailand's top restaurants, bars, and hotels. KAGUA is a particularly high-end product in Beervana's portfolio, and will be sold primarily to high-end establishments.

Nippon Craft Beer Co., Ltd. will continue to strive to further expand its business in Asia, North America, Europe, and other countries around the world, and to provide the high-quality value of "KAGUA" to more customers.

About KAGUA, the Japanese-flavored ale This flagship brand of Nippon Craft Beer Co., Ltd. was launched in March 2012 with the idea of "making beer that complements Japanese cuisine enjoyable for people all over the world." The original recipe (mixture) was designed based on the concept of "a fragrant aroma that complements Japanese cuisine," and is brewed at a partner brewery in Belgium using yuzu and sansho pepper, two herbs that are symbols of Japan.

There are two varieties in the lineup: "Blanc," a light-colored, top-fermented beer made with wheat, and "Rouge," a dark-colored, top-fermented beer made with roasted malt.A major feature of these beers is that they can be enjoyed with different dishes, just like white and red wines.

Our products are sold in famous and popular restaurants that have been awarded stars in the Michelin Guide, as well as luxury hotels and restaurants in Hong Kong and Singapore.

*Since "KAGUA" uses yuzu and sansho pepper, it is classified as a happoshu (low-malt beer) under Japan's liquor tax law.
*Although it is a happoshu, the malt ratio and manufacturing method are the same as beer, and it is taxed at the same rate as beer. Furthermore, according to the standards of many countries, including Belgium, where it is produced, "KAGUA" is classified as beer, so it is sold as beer in overseas markets.
