[Press Release] Release of "Kagua" - A Japanese-Fragrant Ale
Share
Nippon Craft Beer Co., Ltd. (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shiro Yamada; hereinafter referred to as "Nippon Craft Beer") will release "KAGUA," a fragrant Japanese ale, on March 24, 2012.
This product was born from the idea of "making a beer that looks great on a Japanese dining table available to people all over the world," and was realized after four years of planning and 14 prototypes.
● What is "KAGUA, the Fragrant Japanese Ale"? This beer (※1) is brewed by a Belgian brewer based on an original recipe designed by Nippon Craft Beer.
We have thoroughly pursued high quality in all aspects, including raw materials, manufacturing processes, logistics processes, and bottle design.
There are two varieties in the lineup: "Blanc," a light-colored, top-fermented beer made with wheat, and "Rouge," a dark-colored, top-fermented beer made with roasted malt. Just like white and red wine, they can be enjoyed by pairing them with food.
Immediately after sales begin, the product will be mainly offered at restaurants, and there are no plans for general retail sales for the time being. However, to commemorate the release, a limited number of products will be sold online.

[KAGUA's Three Promises]
- A rich fragrance made with Japanese herbs that go well with Japanese cuisine and ingredients.
- A strong body with a high alcohol content (8-9%) that makes it a satisfying drink to accompany meals.
- Gentle carbonation: Fine, natural carbonation that won't interfere with your meal
[Features of KAGUA]
- Made with designated Japanese herbs, Yuzu from Kochi Prefecture and Budo Sansho from Wakayama Prefecture, this ale exudes the aroma of Japan, just as its name suggests.
- Malt usage: To achieve a full-bodied flavor, we use a generous amount of malt, roughly twice as much as in regular beer.
- Secondary fermentation in the bottle: As with champagne, the secondary fermentation (aging) process takes place in the bottle, forming a soft carbonation.
- Quality on par with wine logistics We use reefer containers for sea transport and manage our logistics processes thoroughly with temperature-controlled warehouses and temperature-controlled deliveries.
- A unique way to enjoy it: To fully appreciate the rich aroma, we recommend enjoying it in a wine glass.
(※1) "KAGUA" is classified as a happoshu (low-malt beer) under Japan's liquor tax law.
Japan's liquor tax law limits the ingredients that can be used in beer, and KAGUA, which uses yuzu and sansho pepper, cannot be labeled as beer.
Although it is a happoshu, the malt ratio and production method are the same as those of beer, and the tax rate is also the same as that of beer, so it is different in purpose from so-called ``tax-saving happoshu.''
In addition, according to the standards of many countries, including Belgium, where it is produced, KAGUA is classified as beer, so it will be sold as beer in overseas markets.
