Far Yeast Brewing is collaborating with local businesses and producers in Yamanashi to create a project called "Brewed with YAMANASHI," which aims to foster symbiosis with the local community through beer. As part of this project, Far Yeast ARCADIA, a Smoked Helles Lager made with malt smoked over selected branches from peach and cherry trees grown in the prefecture, will be released in limited quantities on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
■ Utilizing selected branches from local peach and cherry orchards
As you all know, Yamanashi Prefecture is the fruit kingdom, boasting the highest peach production in Japan. It also ranks third in cherry production, with both varieties cultivated in abundance in the Kofu Basin. The branches left over from pruning peach and cherry trees during farming are often simply burned in the fields. With the aging of agricultural workers, this not only becomes a burden, but also poses an environmental issue in terms of carbon dioxide emissions. "ARCADIA" was launched last year in collaboration with "Kumoseiya Hibiki"*, a smoker based in Minami-Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture, which uses these pruned branches as smoking material and is working to revitalize the local community.
"ARCADIA" is a gentle, fragrant smoked helles lager made with malt, the raw material for beer, smoked with thinning chips from peach and cherry trees. It has been well-received as a craft beer with a clear taste that makes the most of the malt and a subtle natural smoky flavor, and it won a gold medal at the International Beer Cup 2023 held last October.

A light, refreshing beer that makes use of the sweet, gentle aroma of fruit trees.
Following on from last year, this time too, the brewer aimed to create a "smoked beer" in a lager style that he had once tried, was amazed by the taste, and made him love beer even more.
"Smoked beer" often brings to mind a strong, smoky aroma, but ARCADIA, made with malt smoked with chips made from selected peach and cherry branches from Smoked Beer Hibiki, is characterized by a gentle smoky aroma that doesn't overwhelm the base lager. This year, we've made changes to the malt blend to allow you to enjoy the gentle smoky aroma even more. Hops have been kept to a minimum, resulting in a clean, sweet malt flavor and a subtle smoky aroma, with a pleasant carbonation that doesn't overwhelm these, enhancing drinkability and making it easy to chug.
In spring, the Kofu Basin is described as "Arcadia," as the entire area is enveloped in pink with peach and other fruit blossoms. Inspired by this scene, the label design depicts a soft, fragrant fragrance as a soft, pink smoke rising up.
While American-style IPAs remain popular in Japan's craft beer scene, there is also an increasing number of hardcore beer fans seeking lagers, and in response, unique lager-style beers are appearing on the market. This product is recommended for those who want to discover a new side to beer.
" Far Yeast ARCADIA " will be available for purchase in limited quantities on the Far Yeast Brewing official web store from 12:00 on Tuesday, July 9th. Purchases made on the official web store will be shipped sequentially from Wednesday, July 10th to beer bars, restaurants, and liquor stores nationwide.
