Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. (Head office: Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture; CEO: Shiro Yamada; hereinafter referred to as "the Company") will be brewing a limited edition of "Far Yeast Malz Walzer," a traditional Vienna lager with a barley-based flavor, with shipments starting on Wednesday, March 6th.
■ Challenging traditional styles and rediscovering the diversity and appeal of beer
The IPA style, which has long been a staple in the craft beer scene, has captivated drinkers in Japan as well, steadily increasing the number of beer fans. Our company has responded to the trend by releasing many products, including the standardization of Juicy IPA and the challenge of creating limited editions of various IPA styles.
In this context, we aimed to brew a product that embodies our company's mission, "Democratizing Beer - Reclaiming the diversity and richness of beer." Up until now, we have released a variety of creative lager styles, including hoppy lager, smoked lager, and secondary fermentation lager, but this time, we ourselves wanted to rediscover the appeal of beer, so we took on the challenge of brewing a traditional "Vienna lager" for the first time.
■ Vienna Lager: Enjoy the simple taste of barley
The main ingredient is "barley." Vienna Lager, born in Vienna, the capital of Austria, is characterized by a deep amber color with a reddish tint derived from Vienna malt, and a toasty and nutty malt flavor. It is not often seen in Japan, but some say it is a pale lager that was created earlier than Pilsner, and it is a style with a long history.
We've used Vienna malt for the first time, as the main ingredient, and multiple malt varieties to create a deep flavor. We've focused on noble hops*, using a generous amount of Tettnanger and Saaz. This brew has a mild, herbal and spicy aroma, and a pleasant bitterness that balances out the malt.
This refreshing and pleasant lager will remind you that " barley sake " is actually "beer," and will bring to mind the sight of wheat in the fields dancing gracefully in the spring breeze.
*What is Noble Hop? These are traditional hops that have been used in beer brewing in Europe for a long time. They are characterized by a clean bitterness and a refreshing aroma. There are restrictions on the name depending on the components they contain, and four types are called "noble hops": Saaz, Hallertau-Mittelfluh, Spalter, and Tettnanger.
"Far Yeast Malz Walzer" will be available for purchase in limited quantities on the Far Yeast Brewing official web store from 12:00 on Tuesday, March 5th. Purchases on the official web store and shipments to beer bars, restaurants, and liquor stores nationwide will begin sequentially from Wednesday, March 6th.
Also being released at the same time is a collaboration beer with BICYCLE COFFEE TOKYO called "Far Yeast Bicycle Coffee Lager," which is an arrangement of this Vienna lager base with coffee beans soaked in it .
