Produced by Yoshimichi Kobayashi, a hop farmer from Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, Kobayashi Hop Farm is responsible for brewing Hokuto no Hana Hops Pale Ale, a beer made using 100% hops from the 2023 harvest in Hokuto City. Orders will begin being accepted at Kobayashi Hop Farm from Friday, February 16th .
Hokuto City in Yamanashi Prefecture is well suited to hop cultivation thanks to its cool climate and the amount of sunlight it receives, which is the highest in Japan, and it was the first town in Japan to fully start contract hop cultivation. However, the number of farmers growing hops is currently on the decline.
Kobayashi, a hop farmer in Hokuto City, aims to spread the appeal of hops and revive and revitalize hops grown in Hokuto City. He currently supplies hops to many craft beer breweries across Japan, and Far Yeast Brewing has been continuing its Yamanashi support project, "Far Yeast Farm to Brew," since 2021, by brewing with fresh hops from Kobayashi Hop Farm.
"Hokuto no Hana Hops Pale Ale" is a beer produced and sold by Kobayashi, with the aim of sharing the charm of hops with as many people as possible. Brewed by Far Yeast Brewing using only hops grown at Kobayashi Hop Farm, it was released in limited quantities in 2020 and was very well received. This time, it will be brewed for the fourth consecutive year using hops from the 2023 harvest.
While multiple hops are typically used in beer, Hokuto no Hana Hops Pale Ale is brewed with only one type of cascade hop, allowing you to enjoy the natural aroma and characteristics of freshly picked hops. Hops are added at multiple times during the boil, extracting and layering the various flavors of cascade hops to create a deep flavor that you can enjoy.
Orders for Hokuto no Hana Hops Pale Ale, brewed with hops harvested in 2023, will begin on Friday, February 16th via the Kobayashi Hop Farm website, with shipments to begin on Monday, March 11th.

[About Kobayashi Hop Farm]
Kobayashi Hop Farm is a hop farm located in Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, at the southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake, a pioneering area for hop cultivation. Test cultivation began in Hokuto City in 2014, and full-scale hop cultivation and beer sales began in 2016. The farm is committed to the preservation and development of hop cultivation.
Most domestic hops are grown by contract farmers of major beer manufacturers, but Kobayashi Hop Farm does not have exclusive contracts and sells its hops freely, thereby spreading the appeal of hops to a wider audience.
