山梨・小菅村産梅を使った新プロダクト 樽熟成サワーエール『Off Trail LIGHTNING STRIKE ~稲妻~』 9月26日(火)限定発売

A new product using plums from Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture: a barrel-aged sour ale called "Off Trail LIGHTNING STRIKE ~Inazuma~" will be released on Tuesday, September 26th (limited edition).

Off Trail, a brand that challenges itself with innovative beer brewing, will be selling a limited edition Off Trail LIGHTNING STRIKE ~Inazuma~, made with plums from Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, from Tuesday, September 26, 2023.

■This year, we will further strengthen our collaboration with local producers and businesses.

The many plum groves in Kosuge Village, where our brewery is located, are becoming increasingly difficult to harvest and maintain due to the aging of producers. From the start of the project, Off Trail has focused on this local issue and has been working to create products using local ingredients with their own hands. This year marks the fourth year that they have been creating products using plums from Kosuge Village. Under the theme of "Terroir Kosuge," they have released a barrel-aged pale ale called "Ume-kin' Me Crazy!" as well as plum wine from the "Off Trail - Azeotrope" series.

Every year, our brewery staff participate in the plum harvest with the cooperation of Hiroki Aoyagi of boonboon Co., Ltd., a Kosuge village native who is working to restore, manage, and utilize farmland within the village. Each freshly picked plum is carefully prepared and used in our beer brewing.
This year, we also received cooperation from the NPO Genryu Mirai in Kosuge Village and producers in Uenohara City, which is next to Kosuge Village, and collected a total of 300 kg of plums, producing approximately 1,600 liters, which was more than last year.

■A sour ale with a stimulating plum flavor that's perfect for a refreshing drink during the lingering heat of summer.

This year's new product uses a different style of base beer than last year's "Umekin' Me Crazy!". We chose a tropical and fruity Bulleit Pale Ale, aged in barrels for six months, as the base blend, as it pairs extremely well with the tartness of the plum. Considering this year's weather, with the lingering heat well into September, we also blended in a blonde ale to create a refreshing finish. Furthermore, the addition of ginger balances the stimulating tartness of the plum, resulting in a light and drinkable finish while still retaining the funky aftertaste that is characteristic of barrel-aged "Off Trail."
The name "LIGHTNING STRIKE" was inspired by the stimulating sourness of plums. The label design, which features a plum monster as its motif, embodies the ambitious goal of the "Off Trail" project, which aims to take Kosuge to the world by sending out unique products.

"Off Trail LIGHTNING STRIKE ~Inazuma~" will be available for purchase in limited quantities on the Far Yeast Brewing official web store from 12:00 on Tuesday, September 26th. It will be available at beer bars, restaurants, and liquor stores nationwide from Wednesday, September 27th, and on the web store from Friday, September 29th.

[What is Off Trail?]

Launched in November 2019 as a follow-up to the two brands "KAGUA" and "Far Yeast," "Off Trail" is a brand that explores new possibilities in craft beer. Its name comes from the image of forging ahead on unpaved roads, setting itself apart from well-paved roads. The beer is brewed using the barrel-aging method, whereby beer is aged in barrels previously used for wine, sake, and whiskey, in order to develop rich and complex aromas by utilizing microorganisms other than brewer's yeast. The brand explores unique flavors by blending seasonal fruits such as grapes and peaches, as well as regional specialties, to match the characteristics of the base beer.
