About European Beer Star
European Beer Star is the largest beer competition in Europe and one of the most prestigious beer competitions in the world.
The awards are primarily for beers from traditional European beer styles, with the award going to "authentic, distinctive, and high-quality beers." This year's awards were held on November 4th and 5th by a panel of expert judges from the European Beer Stars.
Even in Europe, where traditional beer styles remain popular, there are many breweries demonstrating diversity and originality, so in 2021 a new category, "Freestyle Beer," was added, with a total of 71 categories judged.

Belgian-Style Oude Lambic and Geuze Category: Silver Award
"Off Trail Kreik in the Barrel"

This barrel-aged fruit sour ale is made by adding wild yeast to the wort from "KRIEK IN THE FLESH," a collaboration with Portland brewery "Culmination Brewing," and fermenting and aging it in oak barrels for eight months. After a gentle acidity, the vibrant cherry fruit aroma is complemented by the oak barrel aroma and leathery notes that are unique to barrel-aging, resulting in a well-balanced finish.
"Kriek in the Barrel" was previously released in 2019, and won a bronze medal at the Asia Beer Championship in 2019 and a gold medal in 2021. This latest win also makes it a product that has received high praise internationally.

[What is Off Trail?]
Launched in November 2019 as a follow-up to the two brands "KAGUA" and "Far Yeast," "Off Trail" is a brand that explores new possibilities in craft beer. Its name comes from the image of forging ahead on unpaved roads, setting itself apart from well-paved roads. The beer is brewed using the barrel-aging method, whereby beer is aged in barrels previously used for wine, sake, and whiskey, in order to develop rich and complex aromas by utilizing microorganisms other than brewer's yeast. The brand explores unique flavors by blending seasonal fruits such as grapes and peaches, as well as regional specialties, to match the characteristics of the base beer.
About Culmination Brewing
Brewing began in Portland, Oregon in 2015. This brewery values local pairings. Attached to a bar with over 20 taps, the brewery brews a diverse range of over 100 beers under the direction of owner and head brewer Tomas Sluiter.
