Since the COVID-19 pandemic began last year, beer festivals have been canceled across the country.
In the midst of this, with the desire to allow beer fans to experience the festival atmosphere from the comfort of their own homes and learn about the charms of the region, the four volunteer craft beer makers in Yamanashi Prefecture - Fujizakura Kogen Beer (Fuji Kanko Kaihatsu Co., Ltd.), Yatsugatake Brewery (Moegi no Mura Co., Ltd.), Outsider LLC, and Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. - have launched the " Yamanashi Collaboration Beer " project. "YCB Muscat Bailey A Weizen" and "YCB Peach Sour IPA" will be released to the general public on Monday, October 18th, with pre-orders opening on the craft beer subscription service "Otomoni" from Monday, September 20th.
The “Yamanashi Collaboration Beer” project was launched last year in response to a call from brewers as beer festivals across the country were being canceled.
In particular, the Kofu Craft Beer Fest is held locally, allowing brewers from the prefecture's breweries to visit the event and communicate directly with beer fans, serving as an important point of contact with customers. Now that the event has been canceled and beer fans no longer have the opportunity to visit Yamanashi, our goal is to deliver craft beer that allows you to enjoy a festival at home, even without the need for an in-person event, and to allow people to experience the charms of Yamanashi.
Far Yeast Brewing has also been running the "Yamanashi Support Project" since last year to promote the local attractions through beer, so we agreed with and participated in this call.
Two types of beer were brewed this time: "YCB Muscat Bailey A Weizen" and "YCB Peach Sour IPA."
With peaches and grapes representing Yamanashi, the fruit kingdom, as the main focus, four brewers with different brewing styles have brought together their respective expertise to create a recipe that makes the most of the ingredients. While "YCB Muscat Bailey A Weizen" brings out the full sweetness of the fruit, "YCB Peach Sour IPA" is characterized by a less sweet and more refreshing acidity. You can enjoy the fresh aroma and flavor of the fruit itself in two contrasting styles.
■ "YCB Muscat Bailey A Weizen"
This is a Weizen that allows you to fully enjoy the estery and fruity aroma and the acidity of grapes.
This recipe combines Fujizakura Kogen Beer's Weizen yeast, which has a fragrant fruit mix juice-like aroma, with Merkl hops, which are used at Yatsugatake Brewery.
Hops were kept to a minimum to allow the aromas of grapes and yeast to shine through.
■ YCB Peach Sour IPA
A fragrant fruit sour IPA that brings out the sweet aroma and freshness of peaches with the addition of hops and yeast.
Outsider Brewing and Far Yeast Brewing were responsible for the recipe.
The hops used are Mandarina Barbary and Vic Secret, and the citrus and tropical aromas accentuate the freshness of the peach.
We use PhillySour yeast , which gives it a firm yet natural acidity, resulting in a clean and refreshing finish.
Pre-orders for "YCB Muscat Bailey A Weizen" and "YCB Peach Sour IPA" will begin on Monday, September 20th on the craft beer subscription service " Otomoni," where they will be paired with limited edition beers recommended by the four companies (pre-orders close on Sunday, October 3rd, with shipping starting on Thursday, October 14th).
Since last year, Otomoni has been holding a beer festival collaboration campaign as part of its "Let's Protect Japan's Craft Beer Culture" campaign, and this year it has once again collaborated with 11 beer festivals to hold the "National Beer Festival Cross-Cross Campaign," delivering beers from over 60 breweries to beer fans across the country, which has been met with a great response. This time, the " Yamanashi Collaboration Beer " project has also agreed to this collaborative sale, making it a reality.
