Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. (Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, CEO: Shiro Yamada), a craft beer maker that distributes original Japanese beers to the world, will begin selling its first collaboration beer with Nara Brewing Co., Ltd. (Nara City, Nara Prefecture, CEO: Yasunori Namioka), "Silk Road ~Hazy Sour Ale~," on Saturday, July 10th.

"Silk Road ~Hazy Sour Ale~" is a refreshing drink made with lime, perfect for summer. The slightly woody aroma of lime is layered with the pine and citrus aroma of hops, making it a silky smooth sour ale.
This is our first collaboration with Nara Brewery, one of the most popular breweries in the Kansai region. We decided to collaborate with Nara Brewery, one of the most popular breweries in the Kansai region, in order to challenge the diversity of craft beer and to have craft beer fans in the Kansai region, not just Yamanashi, where we are located, Tokyo, and the Kanto region, enjoy Far Yeast Brewing beer.
We developed the recipe by bringing together the experiences and areas of expertise of Nara Brewery, with their experience in brewing beer using lime and PhillySour yeast, and our experience in brewing hop-forward beer, sour beer, and using aged hops.
This time, we focused on yeast. We used Philly Sour yeast, a new yeast product that both companies have been paying attention to. Taking advantage of its ability to simultaneously carry out lactic acid fermentation and alcoholic fermentation, we used yeast for all of the main fermentation to create the sour flavor.
Furthermore, due to the yeast's hop-tolerant properties, we focused on the farnesene* contained in Willamette hops, emphasizing the woody aroma derived from the hops.
This product is an attempt to discover a new aroma, with a complex blend of the refreshing aroma of lime, the acidity of a sour ale, and the rich hop flavor of a juicy IPA.
*What is Farsenen?
A component found in hop oil that imparts woody, herbal, and citrus aromas.
The name comes from the idea of "connecting the east and west of Japan with beer," just like the Silk Road, a historic trade route that connected the East and the West , and from the silky taste of this beer.
The label was designed by Genki Kubo, who also designed the labels for Nara Brewery . The slightly surreal and mysterious worldview gently expresses the freshness of experiencing a new type of alcoholic beverage, the hazy sour.
In order to meet many craft beer fans in the Kanto and Kansai regions and allow them to enjoy a variety of beer flavors, Nara Brewery is planning to release a second collaboration product in August.
"Silk Road ~Hazy Sour Ale~" will be released to the public on Saturday, July 10th. Pre-orders will begin on our online store from 1:00 PM on Tuesday, June 22nd, with shipments scheduled to begin on Tuesday, June 29th.
