Starting in October 2020, Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. will relocate its headquarters from Shibuya Ward, Tokyo to Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, where its own factory, Genryu Brewery, is located. The impetus for the relocation was the rapid shift to remote work due to the impact of COVID-19. After the relocation, we will collaborate more closely with Kosuge Village and businesses within the village and Yamanashi Prefecture, contributing to the revitalization of the region.
■ Promoting remote work
In response to the spread of COVID-19, staff working at our head office in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, switched to remote work from April. We have an office within our brewery in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, and as we have dispersed bases, including directly managed stores in Atami and Fukuoka in addition to Tokyo, we have already been moving internal information sharing and meetings online, so the transition to a remote work system did not pose any major obstacles. We have also seen benefits such as increased work efficiency, so we have decided to continue promoting remote work and move our head office functions to Kosuge Village.
In addition to being able to reduce fixed costs such as office rent in Tokyo, we hope to secure new talent to drive the company's growth by creating an environment that allows for diverse working styles without being restricted by time or location.
■Regional revitalization efforts
We are the first company to relocate our headquarters to Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. Kosuge Village is located at the source of the Tama River and is blessed with abundant nature and water. In 2017, we established our own factory, Genryu Brewery, in Kosuge Village, and since then have been working on a variety of initiatives in collaboration with Kosuge Village, businesses within the village, and businesses within Yamanashi Prefecture.
In 2017, together with a project team formed by volunteers from the village, they brewed a limited edition beer inspired by the Tama Genryu Festival, a festival held by Kosuge Village. In July of this year, they collaborated with Kosuge Tsukuruza, a digital fabrication business in the village, to jointly develop and sell the Nobocon Board, a climbing training board.
Also in July of this year, we launched the "Yamanashi Support Project" to promote Yamanashi through beer, brewing and selling beer made with peaches grown in Yamanashi Prefecture and plums from Kosuge Village. We plan to continue delivering a variety of "Made in Yamanashi" beers using ingredients from the prefecture through this project.
Going forward, we will strengthen our collaborative activities with the local community, and will also actively work to employ local residents and encourage them to move to the area, including returning to their hometowns. As the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a growing trend of people moving away from urban areas and seeking living environments rich in nature, we will provide attractive workplaces that meet this desire, leading to the revitalization of the local area.
