As the second part of the "Yamanashi Support Project," which aims to liven up Yamanashi Prefecture with beer, we will be pre-selling "Ume-kin' Me Crazy!", a beer made with plums from Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, where our company's factory, Genryu Brewery, is located, on our company's online store from Saturday, September 5th.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Yamanashi Prefecture has been forced to cancel a number of events and activities, and the number of tourists has decreased, creating a difficult situation. In response, we have launched the Yamanashi Support Project in collaboration with local producers, with the aim of revitalizing industry in Yamanashi Prefecture through beer brewing.
The first product was "PEACH HAZE," a beer made with peaches from Yamanashi Prefecture. Pre-orders began in July, and the entire product, including additional brews, was sold out by pre-order.
The second product, "Ume-kin' Me Crazy!", is a beer made with plums from Kosuge Village, the local village where our company's factory, Genryu Brewery, is located. This beer was made possible after we were introduced to Hiroki Aoyagi, who shared his plums with us this time, by a resident of Kosuge Village.
Although the number of people moving to Kosuge Village has increased in recent years, the village population continues to age. Aoyagi has been entrusted with managing the plum trees that have become difficult to care for due to aging and other reasons, and is now using them for workshops such as "pickled plum making experience."
This time, Genryu Brewery staff helped with the plum harvest, and about 200 kg of the harvested plums were set aside for use as ingredients in the beer. Participating in the harvesting work also led to new interactions with the villagers, making it a meaningful initiative.
Harvested plums from Kosuge Village are added to a barrel-aged wheat strong ale made with Belgian yeast, and then blended with other barrel-aged wheat strong ales to create a complex sour ale with a refreshing plum aroma.
The second part of our Yamanashi Support Project, "Ume-kin' Me Crazy!", is a release from our third brand, "Off Trail," which is themed around the challenge of brewing innovative beer.
This is a unique Off Trail wine that exudes a variety of characters, including a rich plum aroma, soft tannin flavor from the barrel, and a scent reminiscent of marzipan, a Middle Eastern sweet made with almonds.
"Ume-kin' Me Crazy!" will be available for pre-sale in the 750ml large bottle only on our online store ahead of its nationwide release in mid-September. Due to limited quantities, it will be sold out once it is gone.
We will continue to use ingredients from Yamanashi Prefecture and offer a variety of Made in Yamanashi beers.
