Far Yeast Brewing releases the first limited edition "Far Yeast Saigon Passion" collaboration beer between Genryu Brewery and an international joint venture
Share
Starting Wednesday, July 11, 2018, we will be releasing our limited edition "Far Yeast Saigon Passion."

"Far Yeast Saigon Passion" is a collaboration between Far Yeast Brewing and Heart of Darkness , a brewery in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Heart of Darkness will also be releasing a passion fruit sour using a different yeast. Far Yeast Brewing uses Belgian Ardennes yeast, while Heart of Darkness uses German Ale yeast.
This sour ale features a vibrant passion fruit aroma and a refreshing acidity. The key passion fruit is sourced from Vietnam. It uses three types of hops: Amarillo, Mosaic, and Citra, but by using less hops than usual, the passion fruit aroma is more pronounced.
Far Yeast Brewing has collaborated with overseas breweries in the past, but this product is the first beer brewed together with an overseas brewery at their own factory, Genryu Brewery.
Starting with this product, we plan to release two more products in collaboration with overseas breweries between July and August 2018. We hope you will enjoy these as well.
Since this product uses concentrated passion fruit juice, some juice may collect at the bottom. We recommend the following method when serving.
Barrel: Once it arrives at the store, it is stored upside down until it is served.
Bottle: Before opening, slowly turn the bottle upside down or shake gently to prevent overflow.
~From Duane, Head Brewer at Heart of Darkness~
"It's always fun to work with other brewers and other breweries because brewers around the world share a passion and commitment to their craft and their product. We share very similar problems, as well as the same joys. It is a welcoming brotherhood worldwide and this was especially true of the team at Far Yeast Brewery. Not only were we welcomed into the brewery but we also felt welcome in the little mountain village where Far Yeast is located.Working with other brewers and breweries is also an educational experience. Even though the process is very similar all the way from home brewers to big international breweries every craft brewer has slightly different methods and every brewery's equipment is slightly different. At Far Yeast I learned something new to me within 10 minutes of walking through the door.
Of course, in our profession meetings always involve tasting beer. It was a highlight of our visit to try some of Far Yeast and Kagua's stunning beers actually at the brewery.
The Japanese market was very interesting to experience first-hand. Personally, I was a little surprised how well established and widespread Craft Beer is in Japan. More so than I was expecting it to be. At the same time I get the feeling that the Japanese market is ready for something a little different. We have been told that fruit beers are popular in Japan. We hope that by using luscious Vietnamese passion fruit juice with both Far Yeast's signature Belgian yeast and Heart of Darkness's twist on beer that we can offer something exciting for Craft drinkers in Japan. We are also looking forward to introducing a range of Heart of Darkness beers to Japan and we can't wait to work with Far Yeast again. Kanpai!!!"
It's fun to collaborate with other breweries and brewers from all over the world because we share a passion and commitment to craft beer. We share very similar challenges, but also the same joys. This is something I feel for my kindred spirits all over the world, but it was especially true for the Far Yeast Brewery team. We felt welcomed not only at Far Yeast Brewery, but also in the small mountain village where it's located (Kosuge Village).
Collaborating with other breweries and microbreweries is also a learning experience. While the beer-making process is very similar, from home brewers to large international breweries, every accomplished brewer has their own unique methods and every brewery's equipment is slightly different. We learned something new within 10 minutes of walking into Far Yeast Brewing's facility. Of course, in our profession, meetings always include tastings. The highlight of our visit to the brewery was tasting the fantastic beers from Far Yeast and KAGUA.
The Japanese market was a very interesting experience. Personally, I was surprised at how deeply craft beer has taken root in Japan. It was beyond my imagination. At the same time, I felt that the Japanese market is ready to accept unique beers. I've heard that fruit beers are very popular in Japan. We hope that by using delicious Vietnamese passion fruit juice, along with Far Yeast's signature Belgian yeast, and adding a twist to Heart of Darkness, we can inspire Japanese craft beer drinkers. We also look forward to introducing the wide variety of Heart of Darkness beers to Japan and working with Far Yeast again. Cheers!
