First in Japan! Copper Works Products, winner of the TWSC2023 Grand Gold Award, will be available from Tuesday, August 8th.
Far Yeast Brewing Co., Ltd. will begin selling six distilled spirits products from American microdistillery Copperworks Distilling Company , which will be making their first appearance in Japan , starting Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
■ Nurturing relationships with distilleries that take innovative approaches
"Off Trail - Azeotrope," developed by Far Yeast Distilling Project, is a crossover brand between beer and distilled spirits that was launched in November 2021 and challenges the creation of innovative spirits and liqueurs, leveraging the fermentation and barrel aging know-how cultivated through beer brewing.
In April 2022, we began exploring collaborations with American microdistilleries, and while visiting local distilleries, we came across Copperworks Distilling Company (hereinafter referred to as Copperworks).
Copperworks uses specially made, traditional Scottish copper stills to produce small-batch single malt whiskeys, gin, vodka, and other spirits based on malted barley. The distillery also focuses on creating distilled spirits that serve as delicious bases for new and classic cocktails, and is committed to developing a "drinker experience" where customers can enjoy high-quality distilled spirits through a variety of events, including tastings and tours.
Just five years after its founding, Copperworks was named "Distillery of the Year" in 2018 in the annual awards run by the American Distilling Institute, America's largest trade association specializing in craft spirits. This prestigious award is given to the spirits brand that receives the most points throughout the competition. We are impressed by Copperworks' excellent quality spirits and their challenging attitude and approach to diverse styles, and have been exploring collaboration and cultivating a relationship with them. As part of this, we would like to introduce these wonderful products to Japan, and will now import and sell their products.
■Products that have won numerous awards at TWSC2023 will be arriving in Japan for the first time
The six products we will be carrying this time include award-winning products, including the Grand Gold Award winner at the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition 2023 (TWSC2023). All of these will be available in Japan for the first time, and are currently only available through our company in Japan. Be sure to be one of the first to try Copperworks' products, which are sure to be a hot topic in the future.
What is the Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition?
The Tokyo Whisky & Spirits Competition (TWSC) is the only tasting event in Japan where whiskies and spirits from around the world are judged by the delicate palates of the Japanese people.
This year's TWSC2023 marks the fifth time the event has been held, and a total of 918 items were exhibited in the Western spirits and shochu categories, making it one of the largest competitions in Asia.

Additionally, we obtained a whiskey production license in April 2022. As part of our collaboration with Copperworks on "Off Trail -Azeortope," we purchased 1,000 liters of whiskey raw liquor from the company, imported it to Japan, and are aging it in wooden barrels at Far Yeast Brewing in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. After aging, we plan to ultimately release it as a collaborative product between the two companies.
While our main focus will remain beer production, we will continue to explore and challenge ourselves to create a variety of alcoholic beverages.
