Far Yeast Brewing will be building a new manufacturing plant in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture. With the full cooperation of Kosuge Village, the aim is to build a multi-functional plant that will also serve as a tourist hub for the village, allowing for tastings and tours . On Monday, October 3rd, Kosuge Village will launch a crowdfunding project to raise funds for the plant site development using hometown tax donations.

Aiming to revitalize Kosuge Village by attracting tourists to the new factory

In 2017 , we established our own factory, Genryu Brewery, in Kosuge Village, where we brew unique beers in the blessed natural environment of a cold climate and clean water. In October 2020, we relocated our headquarters from Shibuya Ward, Tokyo to Kosuge Village, and are focusing on initiatives to revitalize the local area, such as creating jobs in the village and brewing beer using products from the prefecture.

Currently, in addition to seven standard varieties of beer, the company brews over 40 limited edition beers annually. The company exports its products to 26 countries around the world, including the United States and France. Annual production volume, which was 100,000 liters in 2017, has now grown to 400,000 liters, and with demand expected to continue to grow, the company has decided to build a new factory. The new factory is expected to produce 2 million liters, five times the current volume, and is scheduled for completion by 2025.

In constructing the new factory, we wanted to contribute to the revitalization of the local community of Kosuge Village, which has welcomed us with such generous support. In addition to the brewing facilities, we plan to set up an area where people can sample the sake and take tours, and work to attract tourists in conjunction with promoting the village. The planned construction site is adjacent to tourist hubs such as Kosuge no Yu and Kosuge Roadside Station, and we are proceeding with the plan in which the village will carry out the site preparation work, while our company will carry out the construction of the factory.

■ Kosuge Village begins fundraising using hometown tax donations

Kosuge Village will launch a project to raise donations using "Government Crowdfunding®" (GCF), a crowdfunding-style hometown tax donation system provided by TrustBank Co., Ltd., which plans and operates the comprehensive hometown tax donation website "Furusato Choice." Donations will be used for site development for the planned factory construction site. The collection period is from Monday, October 3, 2022 to Friday, December 16, 2022, with a target donation amount of 10 million yen. The village will also be offering regular beers from the "Far Yeast" series as a return gift.

[ What is government crowdfunding ?]

This crowdfunding-style hometown tax donation system was launched by Trust Bank in September 2013. Local governments act as project owners and raise funds widely by presenting specific solutions to local issues, the amount of donations needed and how they will be used, and the period for collecting donations. Donors can choose how their donations will be used. This project won the 2019 Good Design Award.
