Far Yeast Brewing will release "Far Yeast Hop Frontier -New World IPA-" on Friday, December 17, 2021, as a limited special version of "Far Yeast Hop Frontier -Juicy IPA-" (hereinafter "Hop Frontier"), which was added to its new standard product line in July 2021. This beer has a powerful tropical flavor and uses Oceanian hops, which have been gaining attention in recent years.
■ "Hop Frontier" maximizes hop aroma with a scientific approach
Hop Frontier, which was one of the first in Japan to implement the latest hop theory and advanced brewing techniques, maximizes the aromatic compounds of hops through a scientific approach. The first batch was released in March 2021, and it became a regular product from July, brewing and selling it year-round as Far Yeast Brewing's new regular beer. This juicy IPA is bursting with fruity and tropical aromas.
Recent research has focused on survivables, compounds that survive the brewing process and contribute to the aroma of finished beer. These compounds, such as monoterpene alcohols, hop-derived esters, and thiols, have a low sensory threshold and are relatively resistant to evaporation. They are believed to remain strong in the final beer product even after the brewing process, delivering a powerful aroma impact. Hop Frontier explored brewing methods that effectively extract these aroma compounds, taking on the challenge of maximizing various aromas that have previously been considered difficult.

■New World IPA: A style that has been gaining attention in recent years
In February 2021, the US Brewers Association added a new style called "New Zealand-Style India Pale Ale" to its beer style guidelines. IPAs using hops from Australia and New Zealand are known as "New World IPAs"*1 and have been gaining attention in recent years.
"Hop Frontier" is made with four types of hops, centered around "CRYO POP™," a new hop product developed by Yakima Chief Hops® after several years of research into Survivables. The newly released "Far Yeast Hop Frontier -New Wordl IPA-" uses "CRYO POP™" like "Hop Frontier," but also incorporates New Zealand hops "Pacific Sunrise" and "Nelson Sauvin," as well as Australian hops "Vic Secret." While retaining the strong monoterpene aromas of "Hop Frontier, " the brewery maximizes the tropical flavors of Oceanian hops, such as pineapple and orange, resulting in a vibrant finish.
*1 What is New World IPA?
This style uses hops from Australia and New Zealand. Amid the recent hop-forward beer boom, it has emerged as a derivative style of IPA and has attracted attention. In 2021, the US Brewers Association defined it as a "New Zealand-Style India Pale Ale" in its Beer Style Guidelines. It is characterized by a vibrant tropical fruity flavor that brings out the character of Oceanian hops, as well as grassy aromas, flavors, and bitterness.
*2 What is CRYO POP™?
This is the new product name for TRI-2304CR, a hop product developed by Yakima chief Hops® after several years of research into survivables. Far Yeast Brewing is the first to use this hop in a product in Japan. It maximizes solubility (ease of dissolving in liquid), allowing the fruity, ripe, and juicy aroma to remain fragrant in the final beer.
