Far Yeast Brewing will release a limited edition "Passion Haze," made with pesticide-free passion fruit from Okinawa Prefecture, on Friday, August 6th. Advance orders will begin on Tuesday, July 27th on their official online store.
"Passion Haze" is a hazy IPA *1 that is full of aromas of passion fruit and tropical flavors such as pineapple, mango, citrus, and coconut . The tropical aroma is complemented by the acidity of passion fruit, resulting in a refreshing aftertaste.
*1 What is Hazy IPA?
This style is defined as "Juicy or Hazy India Pale Ale" in the Beer Style Guidelines by the US Brewers Association. As the name suggests, it focuses on bringing out the "juicy flavor" of hops and is characterized by its cloudy appearance. Although it is a new beer style defined in 2018, it has become popular among craft beer enthusiasts and is currently one of the most talked-about styles.
"Passion Haze" was born from a connection with Akemi Chinen of Akemi Farm, which cultivates passion fruit without using pesticides in Okinawa. It makes effective use of non-standard fruit that is perfectly tasty to eat but cannot be shipped to market and is discarded. Inspired by Chinen's desire to "introduce passion fruit, which is still relatively unfamiliar to people all over the country, through beer," the company aimed to create a beer that conveys the appeal of passion fruit, characterized by its gorgeous aroma and sweet and sour taste.
Delivered directly from the farm to the brewery, passion fruit is carefully handpicked and used generously. Aiming for a tropical and juicy aroma, we used three types of hops: Citra, Azacca, and Sabro, to create a hazy IPA that makes the most of the tropical, rich aroma and acidity of passion fruit.
"Passion Haze" will be released to the public on Friday, August 6th. Pre-orders will begin on our online store from 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 27th, with shipments scheduled to begin on Thursday, July 29th.
Our brewery is located in Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, the kingdom of fruit, and we moved our headquarters there in October last year, focusing on brewing fruit beers. As part of the "Yamanashi Support Project" launched last year, we are brewing beer using fruits from the prefecture, such as peaches and grapes. In addition, our brand "Off Trail," which uses barrel aging techniques to brew using microorganisms other than beer yeast, produces beers with unique flavors blended with seasonal fruits such as mango, plum, and persimmon.
We plan to continue offering a variety of fruit beers that take advantage of regional characteristics.

[About Akemi Farm]
A farm run by Chinen Akemi in Yaese Town, Okinawa Prefecture.
After getting married, he moved to Okinawa and began growing vegetables outdoors using reduced amounts of pesticides, wanting to feed his children safe and secure food. He had been searching for something that could be grown without pesticides for some time, and came across pesticide-free cultivation of passion fruit in the prefecture. He decided that "while he was there, he might as well grow something that is truly Okinawan," and has been growing passion fruit in pesticide-free greenhouses since 2018.
We are committed to using no pesticides, growing our crops using organic fertilizer and enzymes, and all measures to prevent pests and disease are taken by hand.
