"Far Yeast Tokyo White" won the gold medal at the International Beer Cup 2017.
At the awards ceremony held at Yokohama Port Osanbashi Hall on Sunday, September 17th, the gold, silver, and bronze award winners were announced for each beer style, with Far Yeast Tokyo White winning the gold award in the Freestyle Light Ale category.
The International Beer Cup has been held since 1996 and is the third oldest beer competition in the world. A panel of 64 judges, consisting of international and domestic judges from 40 countries, conducts rigorous tastings of 106 styles in each of the bottled/canned and kegged categories, and awards gold, silver, and bronze medals for each style.
According to the organizers, this year 554 beer brands from 24 countries were entered, with roughly half coming from overseas, making it an extremely high-level competition.
This is the first time that a beer brewed at our own factory, Genryu Brewery, has won this award, so we will use this win as encouragement to continue evolving and aiming for even greater heights.
