"KIWI KAIJU," a dark beer inspired by New Zealand chocolate, will be released on April 10th (Friday)
Share
Far Yeast Brewing will be releasing a limited edition chocolate porter called "KIWI KAIJU," made with plenty of cacao nibs, starting Friday, April 10th.
This beer was created in tribute to our former brewer, Ethan Lewis, as a farewell gift. Originally from New Zealand, Ethan came to Japan on a working holiday visa in July 2019 and visited Kosuge Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, where our brewery is located. He worked on beer as a member of Far Yeast Brewing until the end of his stay in March. To commemorate his graduation, we decided to let him make his favorite beer. His ideal beer was a "drinkable, dark beer, like his beloved New Zealand chocolate." The result is an exquisitely balanced brew with a chocolate aroma from the cocoa nibs, a moderate sweetness, and a pleasant bitterness on the finish.
"KIWI KAIJU" is a combination of the words "KIWI" (New Zealander) and "KAIJU" (giant), meaning "monster from New Zealand." The name was chosen with the image of Ethan's large body in mind. The label was commissioned to his brother, who is a designer, and features the Puriri Moth, New Zealand's largest moth, and the mountains of Kosuge Village.
This dark beer is as rich and flavorful as our friendship and gratitude to Ethan. Please give it a try.
*Drinkable: Meaning "easy to drink, easy to drink"
